BE BAD NOW!
From the case files of Texas Detective Sgt. Jumpin' Jack Kellog.
In the 1980s, a lone Texas detective takes on the bastardized brotherhood of the Northeastern Mafia and Cowboy Mafia.
In the 1980’s a recession stampedes Texas. The oil industry dries up, laying high rollers low and sending the entire state of Texas into a tornado-like downspin. Northern mobsters invade these cracks in the Lone Star State. Their schemes: corruption, loan sharking, gambling, extortion, drug and human trafficking, and murder for hire -- all backed with strong arms swinging bats, psychos pointing guns, torture, violence and death.
The city of West Forge, a stone’s throw from Houston, is Sgt. “Jumpin” Jack Kellog’s town. And when organized crime seeps in, Kellog’s brand of justice knows no bounds. He tracks, fights, kicks and shoots his way through conspiracies, threats, ambushes and showdowns. Pushed to near-madness by angst with informants inside his agency and lurking everywhere, Jack tackles the thugs, bosses, lawyers, politicians and businessmen on the mob payroll, in a battle that takes him from the swamps of Louisiana, to the ghettos of Houston, to casinos in Vegas and even through the Halls of Congress in Washington D.C.
Can Kellog beat the Yankee Mafia? Beat the Cowboy Mafia? Their Crime Confederation? How bad is bad enough when you must…

Some Reviews...
"This was a very fun book to read! I'll spare you all the stuff about the author. Google is your friend. On to the book:
The short:
Be Bad Now is an entertaining, quick read perfect for a reader who is fond of crime and military fiction (and nonfiction). Written in a the clean, yet descriptive manner of someone who's spent a career in law enforcement, this vivid tale is nuanced enough for the discerning reader, yet accessible to anyone who hasn't read anything more pressing than a fast food menu. Worth the purchase.
Plot:
I'd give it 5/5 stars. The plot intro and setting was not something I was expecting, and it really helped me get into what I thought might be one long diary entry detailing police work and gunfights (which it's not). There are plenty of ins and outs in here, despite it being a quick read. There's plenty of action and a sprinkling of non-gratuitous, realistic, adult language. The reader looking for some excitement will not be left disappointed! If you liked the movies "Taken" and "Boondock Saints", you'll probably like this book.
Writing:
4.5/5 stars. Very accessible, yet entertaining and informative. Hock's experience as a cop, seeing the crap that police officers have seen, shows through here. While this book is an all fiction work, there is a certain "grit" to be found in these pages, something that I believe could only have been conveyed by a veteran officer like Hock. Nothing really flowery or overly detailed, just quick and to the point. This book might fit better alongside some western novels than beside Kathy Reichs novels. Despite the modern settings, this book has the feel of a Western novel at times, where the story is told with all the information that's needed and none that's not. This is the sort of book that helps people ditch the PS3 and start reading. It sucks you in and makes you yearn for more.
Would I buy it all over again? At full retail? Heck yes. There's a lot of formulaic crap out there nowadays. This book is... different. Not written by someone who merely "researched" the characters. Not written by an author who was working to make deadline or off an advance. Rather, this book is the product of life and passion. –Thomas Pentzer- Utah
“Just finished Be Bad Now and wanted to write and tell you I enjoyed it a lot. It was easy to read and moved fast, the action was enjoyable…I really enjoyed the angle on the Texas Mafia...anyway, I enjoyed the read a lot and hope you have more stories coming from the files of Detective Kellog! Thanks for a fun story! - Ed Stowers, VA.
“Should be a movie!” Ben Cross – CA
“This is the action adventure of the summer! Perfect for these long hot summer days and nights, I enjoyed reading about the world of Sgt. Kellog as he wields the long arm of the law to battle the bad guys. This is not a great bedtime story for the young 'uns, though. Unka Hock has scary thoughts rolling around in his head… If you haven't bought a copy and sat down to do so, get yer rear in gear! I'm looking forward to the sequel.” - Kelly Knight, Maryland
"Beware all that dare to "Mess with Texas". When Jumpin Jack Kellog is between you and the exit, and that exit means ...you think you might not go to jail, and you make your move, you are gonna get filled with lead. There are cops, and then there are Texas cops. If you want to read about men with nothing but miles of nothing between them and backup, you are going to want to read BE BAD NOW. Clint Eastwood would produce this one in that style best known for Dirty Harry's hard nosed attitude about punks, and Kellog would be able to do it justice. When you finish reading BE BAD NOW, you won't be able to wait, you'll be going for more ink coming from the pen of Hock Hochheim." - Gerald Barnet, France
“Fun book! Fine action-read. I look forward to reading the next Kellog book.” – Rob Kloss, Delaware
"What great reading! You really cannot stop and go to sleep. You`ve got adrenaline kick. Tarantino should make a movie about Jack Kellog." -
Yuriy Kalistratov, Holland
